FOR DEVELOPERS

What is a public art advisor?

A public art advisor helps in the development of a coherent art collection. They are instrumental in creating exciting and inspiring environments for private developers, art collectors and public agencies. They bring with them an in depth knowledge of current art trends, market values and historical significance.

A public art advisor assists their clients with the requirements needed to comply with city public art ordinances and polices. The art advisor works hand-in-hand with artists, design team members, fabricators, and contractors to ensure a seamless integration of the public art program requirements with the overall project scope and schedule.

Why the need for art?

Public art enhances the quality of life in a community, fosters economic development and creates vital public spaces. It is an integral element in private development to illuminate the city’s aspirations and to help establish a creative environment for the community. Successful public art projects have the ability to infuse new development with a strong connection to the community, giving both residents and visitors a vibrant sense of place.

Private developers will gain visibility, making their properties more attractive to both business and residential markets, and promote good relationship within the community. Including public art will improve employee and tenant working environments, create a unique look or landmark feature for the property, and transform the building to become a more desirable location.

Why hire a public art advisor?

An experienced public art advisor brings a unique set of skills to oversee the process, from the initial discussions, to selection of the artist, to design development, and throughout the approval process, fabrication and installation. A Public art advisor can bring an invaluable amount of professional experience and insight to the process. She is the owner’s (or developer’s) representative in all phases of the project, ensuring that the public art work is achieved within budget and on schedule, and that it meets the aesthetic goals of all involved. The expertise of the public art advisor can save the developer considerable time and effort, and will contribute to the realization of an exemplary project.

Art provides an outstanding opportunity to bring a new dimension to a project. In addition to enhancing a site aesthetically, art creates a landmark destination, a sense of place that will serve as an attraction for visitors and a source of pride for the community for years to come.

About us....

Saori Russell Fine Art, established in 2003, has worked with many interior designers and architects all over the country to find and place artworks. In recent years, we have expanded our service to work with property owners, private developers, and public agencies to provide public artworks. We collaborate with city agents, architects, structural engineers, and artists to bring our projects to completion. We specialize in assisting our clients with “an experienced eye” to create a unique and exciting art experience.

Our approach

Our approach to developing an art program is based on 5 basic questions.

  • What is the purpose of the development or use of the property?

  • What is the historical and/or cultural background associated with the location?

  • Who will be the targeted audiences and what type of engagement you are looking for?

  • Is there any significant icons, symbols or visual identity that can harmonize with the surroundings?

  • What are the types of artwork would you like to see? Interactive, environmental, monumental, integrated in architecture or free-standing?

With each project and each client, we analyze the budget, timeline and restrictions then offer a comprehensive art program that fits our client’s needs. We follow any city guidelines, policies and ordinances to satisfy the art requirements and oversee an entire art project from the beginning to the end.

Three approaches for your art program:

  • Art Acquisition: We search and select artworks for our clients and advise and assist them with the purchase from the artist. We oversee receiving the artwork and it's placement.

  • Art Commissions: We issue a RFQ/RFP to solicit artists or artist teams to work with us in order to create a more site-specific artwork for the project location.

  • Design/Build: Our team can also design a specific artwork and fabricate it to meet your budget and timeline.
